Summary: The reproductive system is driven my hormones and the need to reproduce. Each sex has its own reproductive system. The production of off spring is made by sex cells also known as gametes. The female games are called eggs and the made gametes are called sperm. Under the right conditions the sperm can fertilized the egg through sexual inter coarse and 9 month later a baby arrives.

    Vagina- The vagina is a tube like organ that connects the outside of the body to the uterus.
    Cervix- This is the lower part of the uterus.
    Uterus- AKA "the womb"-This is a hallow organ with muscular walls and where babies are held and produced during pregnancy.
    Fallopian tubes- There are a pair of thin tubes that attach the ovaries and the uterus. These tubes also carry the eggs from the ovaries to the uterus during ovulation.
    Ovaries- The ovaries produce estrogen and progesterone and produce the female gametes (eggs).

How does this apply to my career? This applies to my career as a nurse because someday I might have to help deliver a baby and the knowledge how that baby is made and where it comes from are important. The physiology of the female reproductive system and the male system might help me someday when explaining to either my kids or patients how pregnancy may be avoided or how to increase you chances of getting pregnant through finding the day that the patient might be ovulating. Also understanding the disease that come along with sexual intercourse and the severity of those disease would be important to know. Such disease like syphilis, gonorrhea, HIV, genital warts and clammidiya are seen on a regular basis in the health care field. It is crucial to know what is normal for female and male reproductive system so I could tell if there is something unusual going on with them .

Describe the ovarian cycle and menstrual cycle.

Menstrual cycle: This cycle starts during the follicular phase. During this phase the follicles are stimulated by FSH from the anterior pituitary gland in the brain. Then the follicle grows and secretes large amounts of estradiol. at about day 13 the rise of estradiol stimulates the LH from the anterior pituitary. This positive feedback stimulates ovulation at day 14. After the ovation the empty follicle is now stimulated by LH to become a corpus luteum. when this happens the ovary is at the lutal phase of the cycle.The secretion of progesterone and estradiol increases and in turn this produces a negative feedback of FSH,LH and GNRH secretion. Due to this event the corpus luteum regresses and the luteal phase comes to and end. This leads to the decreases amount of progesterone and estradiol. Then these actions result in mensuration and the being of a new cycle. The menstruation phase is the sloughing off of the endometrium and is excreted through the vagina by blood and muscle movement.
