Describe how the hypothalamus regulates the action of the posterior pituitary and the anterior pituitary.
The anterior pituitary is controlled by the responses from target gland hormones and hormones that are produced by the hypothalamus .It does create and secretes its own hormones. On the other hand, the posterior pituitary stores and releases hormones that are produced by the hypothalamus in the brain.

Anterior pituitary releases six different hormones-
Growth hormone, thyroid-simulating hormone, adrenocorticotropic hormone,follicle- simulating hormone, luteinizing hormone and prolactin
  • These hormones are secreted or inhibited after being stimulated by another releasing hormone that is produced by the hypothalamus.

Posterior pituitary release two different hormones -
Anti-diuretic hormone and oxytocin

  • These hormones are produced by the hypothalamus and are carried by the hypothalamo- hypophyseal tract. The release of the two hormones are regulated by neuroendocrine reflexes

Anterior pituitary makes prolactin. This hormone is regulated by a prolactin-inhibiting hormone. It encourages milk production in women that are lactating.

Posterior pituitary releases oxytocin. This hormone stimulates the uterine contraction when a woman is pregante and promotes letdown of milk in women.

What are trophic hormones and their role in hormone communication?
Tropic hormones are hormones secreted by the anterior pituitary gland. They control the secretion of other hormones. There role in the communication of the hormones is that they tell the anterior pituitary to increase or decrease the concentration of the hormone.
